Who Can Donate?

Most healthy adults can donate blood. Here are the basic requirements:

Basic Requirements

  • Age between 18-65 years
  • Weight minimum 50 kg (110 lbs)
  • Hemoglobin level 12.5-16.5 g/dL
  • Normal temperature and pulse
  • Blood pressure within normal range

Health Requirements

  • Good general health
  • No recent illness or infection
  • Not taking certain medications
  • Normal hemoglobin levels
  • Clear medical history

Who Cannot Donate?

Certain conditions temporarily or permanently disqualify donors for safety reasons

Temporary Disqualifiers:
  • Recent tattoo or piercing (12 months)
  • Recent dental work (72 hours)
  • Current pregnancy (12 months post-delivery)
  • Recent travel to malaria areas
  • Certain medications
Permanent Disqualifiers:
  • HIV positive status
  • Hepatitis B or C

  • History of certain cancers
